“Christians must not judaize by resting on the Sabbath, but must work on that day, rather honouring the Lord’s Day; and, if they can, resting then as Christians. But if any shall be found to be judaizers, let them be anathema from Christ.”
- Cannon 29, Synod of Laodicia, ~364AD
“If then, those who had lived in antiquated practices came to newness of hope, no longer keeping the Sabbath but living in accordance with the Lord’s day, on which our life also arose through him and his death . . .”
- Ignatius, Letter to Magnesians, 9. Early 100′s A.D.
“Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath. These are a shadow of the things to come, but the substance belongs to Christ.”
- Colossians 2:16-27
“You observe days and months and seasons and years! I am afraid I may have labored over you in vain.”
- Galatians 4:10-11
“One person esteems one day as better than another, while another esteems all days alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. The one who observes the day, observes it in honor of the Lord. The one who eats, eats in honor of the Lord, since he gives thanks to God, while the one who abstains, abstains in honor of the Lord and gives thanks to God.”
- Romans 14: 5,6

Thank you, I really found these quotes helpful. Obviously I’d read the biblical ones before, but those from the Fathers are an encouragement to research them more. Press on.
You’re welcome William.
I just came across these researching something else so I’m sure there is much more to discover from the early fathers on the subject.
Grace,
Shane.
It is non-Jews whom the Apostle Paul [a Jew, see Acts 23 6 et al] forbids to judaize or be judaized. It is to non-Jews that he delivers the injunction of Romans 11 18. The Holy Bible is the sole authority on all matters of faith and doctrine. The “early church” is the church of the first century A.D. where Jews and non-Jews saved by Divine Grace fellowshipped together. The babblings of anti-semites have no authority toward the genuine disciple of the Jewish Messiah but offer us the opportunity to show kindness and forbearance.
Thanks for your concern. However, you missed the point This is not about anti-Semitism but rather not bringing the commandments of the Old Covenant into the New Covenant.
Grace, Shane.
